PA period activity

I would like to assign values to the jde 9.0 smart field column PA-Period Activity from processing option. However it appears that the values are based out of the company's current period only. I have a way to change the period by entering period number offset. However I would like the offset value to come from processing option instead of fixed number so that users can control.
