what's the difference between 'maintainable' and 'active' in asset defining form?

hi everyone:

could anyone tell me what's the difference between 'maintainable' and 'active' in asset defining form? for what i know, the correspondent asset cannot be used for work request or work order, but what exactly is their difference?
