Spacewalk 2.4-Is there a workaround to allow .local in the spacewalk FQDN?

In my enterprise, the standard is to put all linux servers as severname.mycompany.local.    I'm seeing this in the network requirements page of the installation guide.

"You must configure a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for the Spacewalk server. Spacewalk does not consider .local and .localdomain to be valid domain names."   I do not have another domain I could put the Spacewalk server.   Is there a way to away spacewalk.mycompany.local to be a valid FQDN?

TIA   Dave
