Lockbox Receipt and Invoice Application

Is it possible through lockbox to create only receipts once and apply the invoices later to the receipts created earlier? Can we pass only the receipt details in one data file to create the receipts only and later other data file will contain the application details(invoices which are to be applied to the receipts already created). Please explain whether this is possible, if yes how to implement this?
