9.3.3 Bulk Number Creation (not importing)

I was wondering if anyone knew how to generate a bunch of item numbers at one time without using the import sheet.  For example, a user wants to generate 20 item numbers all for the same part type (Mechanical Item).  This would generate the numbers using our standard autonumber settings and create the Mechanical Items.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
