Retiring Capitalized Asset created in error with Negative units

Oracle 12.1.3   In 2012 an asset was capitalized in error.  FA user at that time created another asset with negative units instead of retiring.  Different user is trying to retire both assets as part of clean up.  When initiating Retirement, error thrown, 'FROM-40207:  Must in be range 1 to...

Transfer date is 8/11/2016.

User tries to change units to a positive qty, and another error is thrown--APP-OFA-47289:  Please enter only positive units in the transfer field.

User tried to zero out the cost----error is still thrown.

Any way to reverse, retire or delete that incorrect asset?
