Spl characters in Item Number

Hi,

Is it good to have special characters in Item Number in JDE?  I created few items with special characters and tested it in SO and WO cycle did not have any issues.  Only had some issues in searching them in P4101 QBE.  However, I have not seen them being used in my past experience.  Please advice if it is good to have them in item numbers.
