Patch Search - Projects Family

I am using the Patch Search on Metalink to get a list of recommended Patches for Oracle Projects Family.  It is unclear how to determine which of the patches I would need to apply.  Why does in inlcude all recommended patches instead of just the most current ones? It is hard to determine which ones are cumulative and which ones are required if I apply the latest pf patch delta.7 for example?
