Can we use JOBN field to catpure version details

In our case it seems to be critically important to have version details as process includes several scheduler, application and manual updates are being done and to have control how the data is updated and by what means as we don't have visibility on the version details in the many files

So we have identified to use field "JOBN - Work station ID" field to capture version details, but here we are not sure what will be the impact of this field when used.

Could please give us guidance what would be the impact if we map this field to capture version details.
