What do you use for HFM 11.1.2.4 Backup

We are currently on HFM 11.1.2.4.201 and I was wondering what other people are doing or what other recommendations people have for backing up HFM on a nightly basis. We have attempted using the Copy App Utility, but backing up across our WAN is taking over 8 hours and using LCM generates files that exceed the 256 character max file path length for the OS. Does anyone use the built in Import Application to copy applications from prod to a dev environment nightly and then use SQL log shipping? Looking for any sort of answers or solutions you may have.
