RMAN active duplicate failing with error "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel"

Environment details:

Oracle 12c ( 12.1.0.2.0 Production) , Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.7

Trying RMAN duplicate from primary to standby instance using command " duplicate target database for standby from active database"

and its failing with following errors while copying the datafiles from primary to standby database.

Error while creating physical standby DB: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

Cannot create physical standby DB  : ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

I checked the primary database alert log during the time when ORA-03113 error occurred , following errors were logged :

Fatal NI connect error 12170.

  VERSION INFORMATION:

  TNS for Linux: Version 12.1.0.2.0 - Production

  Oracle Bequeath NT Protocol Adapter for Linux: Version 12.1.0.2.0 - Production
