World 9.1 Web Enablement - client java requirement

I have not used/installed World software since version A7.3.  Back then the 'web' enablement was World Vision.    I have a customer who have World 9.1 installed and would like to use a web client.  From certifications it looks like jave 1.7 is probably the certified release to use in conjunction with the Seagull 4.34.  Can Java 1.8 be used?  The customer requires 1.8 on the user PC's for another application.
