EAM personalization: what's the difference between searching map and searching panel?

Hi Everyone:

I've been trying to use oaf personalization to add simple search criteria ( which is "department" cause it's a little bit trivial to find it out in the advanced search page everytime)  and add two more flexfiled  column in the search result. but when i entered the personalization page, i found out there are search mapping and search panel in it, what's the difference between those two?
