How can I change the default vsftpd root of "/var/ftp" to something different?

when I log into my Oracle Linux box using my favorite X Windows emulator from my PC I get the following:

Login: oracle

Last login: Mon Sep 19 05:51:29 2016 from m6700.frci.com

/usr/bin/xauth:  timeout in locking authority file /var/ftp/.Xauthority

-bash-4.1$

I believe it's because I probably did something inadvertently when configuring a recent FTP requirement.  Hence the question in the subject of this post

How can I change the default vsftpd root of "/var/ftp" to something different?

Howdy, Stranger!
