When I setup my primary ledger which is (Encumbrance Cash) is it mandatory to allow 'Use Cash Basis

When I setup my primary ledger which is (Encumbrance Cash) is it mandatory to allow 'Use Cash Basis Accounting' Check Box? And if I don’t allow this Check Box what is the impact?
