CAFE1 Parameterized URL from multiple applications

I have a situation where I need to create a dynamic URL from an application.  Three of my four parameters map from that application with no problem.  The fourth parameter is User ID.  My idea was to open a hidden window within the layout for Work With Submitted Jobs so that I could map the User ID into my URL but I only get the + signs for mapping in the P4210 application and not WWSJ.  Can you pull parameters from multiple applications within a Cafe 1 layout or are you limited to just the 'main' application?
