Help me understand what is BI publisher and XML publisher ?

Hi,

We have  R12 EBS instance of 12.1.3 and We have XML publisher Administrator responsibility to work for xml reports.

Now what is BI Publisher , How do we install this BI publisher ? Is it a latest patch of XML Publisher or a software ?  How that BI Publisher responsibility comes ?

How do we connect to BI publisher using ADD-IN section in MS WORD, How do we get those credentials?

Generally I use BU Publisher Desktop for creating report templates etc,

Please help me understand below question and answer:

I have installed Oracle 10g database and Oracle 10g developer suite.

I am beginner to use Oracle BI publisher for making reports.
