Possible to Price other than by Item Number?

We are using Advanced Pricing with Procurement, R12.1.3.

We would like to assign pricing based on an Item Master Attribute, instead of each Item Number that has that Attribute.  I realize I'd probably have to do something with the custom price hook, but I'm just wondering if it's even possible since it looks like the pricing screen requires an item number.  The Items aren't necessarily under the same Item Category or there may be other items under the same category with different prices, so we can't go by just Item Category. 

So for example Attribute X is price $10. We have approx 300 different Attribute values that would be different prices.
