New Inventory item creation for every new revision

Hi Team

Our business user wants to have change the process where every time there is new revision , new item needs to be created. Right 2 digits are reserved for item revision. E.g. ABC00, ABC01. My question is this a good practice to follow. What are the implications of doing this? We are on Oracle 12.2.4 version.
