Files marked as Ancient in sfscleanup utility

I'm a little confused as what defines an Ancient record in the Siebel file system.

When you run the sfscleanup utility it identifies files as either Orphan or Ancient.   What happens if you delete only the orphan records and leave Ancient records in the file system?  Will the number of Ancient records increase as a result?
