Why lease start date need to be start of the month?

IN EBS R12 Assets module, when I try to create a payment schedule with lease start date other than the first date of the month, the form throws up the following error.

"APP-OFA- 48367: Please enter the first date of the month for the Lease Date and the Start Date".

Is this a bug? Wondering why Oracle had put this constraint? In a real business scenario, lease can start from any date of the month. Any suggestions on how to process leases which does not start on the first date of the month.
