Tax Reporting Type Code and associated Codes

Can someone please explain how the Tax Reporting Type Codes work and how to get a tax report that shows the information related to the reporting codes.

I've found information on how to set these codes up, but am not finding any information on how the reporting works in relation to these codes.  I'm wondering if these codes may be an option for grouping State/County/City tax rates by State to facilitate reporting.
