what is the minimum set up in transportation for the system to be able to calculate promised ship da

we would like the system to use work calendars to calculate pick and shipment dates

we know we need to activate the transport module to do this

but how extensively we will have to ? can we avoid the shipment processing and still be able to calculate those dates ( reflected in SO inquiry)
