11.1.2.3.700 and MSSQL 2012

We are being pushed hard by our SQLDBA team to move the EPM (HFM, FDM, DRM, RnA, Planning, etc.) databases from a MSSQL 2008 R2 cluster to a MSSQL 2012 cluster.

According to the support matrix doc, 11.1.2.3.x only supports up to MSSQL 2008 R2.

Can anyone explain what we risk (in technical terms) by moving to MSSQL 2012? Why would it matter whether or not the backend DB is on 2008 vs 2012?
