Behaviour of the "Primary contact" field

Hello,

I don't understand well the default behaviour of that field. I remember that some time ago when I set a related contact to an account, it automatically populated the same contact to the Primary contact field. But now it doesn't behave like this. Anyone knows if there is any configuration options to change that?
