Period Closed Variance for work order

Hi ,

The work order has been created in Jul-16, and the some resource transactions has been performed in Jul-16 against this work order.

We are seeing some 'Period Close Variance' value has been posted into GL in Jul-16 period when work order is in Open. AS per my understating variance will be posted in GL after work order is closed.
Is my understanding correct? If not, Could you please explain about 'Period close variance' functionality for work order?
