Using receipt routing with MRP.

Some of our Chinese suppliers require we take possession of the inventory when they ship it.  We have a receipt route where we receive the material into be in transit for 2-3 weeks.  However the PO line is closed and MRP will replan the PO once the item is in transit. According to Bug 11005254 this is working as designed.  Is there a way to keep the status of the PO open until the final operation in the route is executed?  That way the MRP inclusion rules would still see the PO.  Or is there a better way to manage this problem.
