Preferences Menu Translation

Hello,

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the translation for the Preferences Menu? For example, if a user has the French language option the top option on the Preferences menu, 'Show Layouts' is translated as 'Afficher mises en page'. Is there any way to change that wording, or is it hard coded?
