How can I require users to complete exit required fields before they are allowed to approve an objec

We are using Agile PLM 9.3.3. Does anyone know of standard out of the box functionality to require users to complete exit required fields before they are allowed to approve an object? We have our phases setup to auto promote after approval, but often users don't run Audit Status before approving, and they end up missing exit required fields. This causes the object to fail auto promotion.

I am trying to find out if there is a way to accomplish this without a process extension. A few of our users are certain they saw this at previous companies, and it was not accomplished with advanced configuration. Thank you!!
