upgrade of Grid Infrastructure - impact on Oracle Restart

Oracle database 11.2.0.4.0, Std, Edition One, 64-bit

Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.4.0, standalone ASM, no RAC, no clustering of any kind.

Oracle Linux 6, 64-bit.

Upgrading the GI to 12.1.0.2.0.

At this time, am installing/upgrading the GI only.  Databases will come later.  Doing initial trials and testing of the upgrade itself on a Vbox system.  Using the GUI vesion of OUI  (./runInstaller from the unzipped installation directory), choosing to "Upgrade Oracle Grid Infrastructure or Oracle Automatic Storage Management".  Actual installation/upgrade appears to work without a hitch.  When runInstaller completes, the ASM instance and the listener are reporting as being version 12.1.0.2. 

But after completion of the installation/upgrade, any subsequent execution of 'crsctl stop resource -all' returns the following:
