JDE 8.10 Password Revisions

We are on 8.10, moving to 9.x sometime next year.

We would like to tighten our security on our JDE passwords.

If I change one of the processing options, will it break all the passwords?

For example: we currently don't require special characters. If I change this processing option to require 1 special character, will that prevent users from logging on who don't currently have a special character in their password?

Or will it just go into effect for the next time a user changes their password?
