Programatically configure CURRENT YEAR in autonumbers?

I inherited an Agile 9.3.3. system that had several autonumbers formatted to have the CURRENT YEAR in the number.  Each January, those autonumbers need to be manually edited to reflect the new year.  surely there must be a formula way to automatically do this, yes?
