loadhier with purgeall option

We are trying to add new dimension to the hierarchy as per the oracle support document following the steps.

In one of the steps we have to purge the hierarchy for which we are trying to add a new dimension.

While purging the hierarchy load failed with the below error.

-purgeAll cannot be used on a partition hierarchy

" what is the meaning of partition hierarchy?"

Does that mean that we portioned our domain on one of the dimension of prod hierarchy that is why unable to purge? If yes in that case what option should we have (purge using purgeage?) to further proceed for the addition of dimension.
