I have searched everywhere but Oracle has not given now to handle postinstall.sql when you have a standby DB (physical or ADG). We practice out of place patching so we patch BCP first.
On the BCP we first install a new home with the PSU and then simply start the standby DB from the new home. We then patch the primary in the same way and run catbunlde and postainstall.sql for DBs that have JAVA.
Before we run postinstall.sql we stop the apply process on the standby and then start it once postinstall.sql is successfully run. This seems to work fine with physical standby but now when we have ADG this does not work we have to stop the standby then run postinstall.sql and then start MRP and then open it for RO.
