Agile PLM Mobile and corp network

Greetings!!

We are considering rolling out the Agile PLM Mobile for approval of changes. Can any one please share their understanding and/or experience of how the solution works when the mobile device is outside of the corporate network and the Agile PLM instance is not externally available? I'm assuming it needs a VPN solution of some kind on the mobile device. Can anyone confirm?
