IP 2016 upgrade

Dear All,

We are in the process of IP 2016 upgrade and are currently in Siebel IP 2013. 

while the upgrade is in progress and done with IRM step, the development for ongoing release is happening in IP 2013.  Basically we dont have a code freeze on IP 2013 code base.

My question is that, once the upgrade is completed successfully,

what is the best approach to retrofit the code which was developed in IP 2013 into IP2016 repository?

Can we take the SIF out from IP2013 and import into IP 2016? Will it work for the custom objects -  the objects which are not part of the vannilla repository and created newly by the developer?
