Can length of Bank Account Display Mask be extended?

We are on 12.1.3 and we have our internal and external bank account number masking setup to show the last for digits.  The problem is some people only have a 5 digit bank account number and when the number displays on documents and forms with only the first digit masked such as *2345.   This makes it very easy for someone to figure out what the account number might be.  Is there any way to make the mask longer than the actual bank account number?  I had hoped it would extend the mask to equal the display length of the field
