Change Award Start/End Dates when Expenditures Exist

Hello,

We have an award for which an expenditure exists, lets say on 01-MAy-2016.

Then we realized it was a mistake and we reversed the expenditure.

Now, we want to change our Award start date to 01-JAN-2017 because of Federal regulations.

But, the system wont allow that because expenditures exists outside this Start Day.

Can you please suggest a workaround?
