how to bulk delete groups from Hyperion Shared Services

we're on 11.1.2.2.*.

I'm trying to delete thousands of groups from shared services. These groups are left-over from a previous deployment years ago for a Hyperion Planning application.  Searching the forums yielded quite a bit on how to mass delete or remove users from groups in SS, however, I was not able to find anything that showed how to delete groups. 

The last option is to go directly to MSSQL's SS table to remove all pertaining groups, but did not want to go that route if there is a better solution avail.
