Restoring Database using RMAN

I have backup files and a control file from another database that had a hardware failure. I am now trying to use the .bkp files and control file to restore that database. I have a brand new freshly installed 12c database I am trying to do the restoration into. How do I go about doing this? I have tried using RMAN guides online with no avail. Also the old database was Oracle 12c Database as well. I have tried a lot of different methods through online searches but I get a different error message each time.
