ASN in Material Workbench

Can someone please help me understand the purpose of the field ASN in Material Workbench results (On-hand Availability).

When  ‘Inbound’ checkbox is enabled and item is queried, in the results tree  on left hand side, I see Inbound section which includes Purchase Orders, Internal Requisitions, Internal
Intransit and ASN. When cursor is moved to any specific ASN, I  see fields with values as below:

Document Type = ASN

Document Number = 0000006607

Document Line Number= 1

ASN = Blank (null) !!

So my  question is ASN number is displayed under field document number but field ‘ASN’ is always empty. In which case field ‘ASN’ will get populated?
