FDMEE Import Format - Amount Field contains Commas

I'm having an issue with the amount field in my FDMEE Import Format.
I have a comma separated Source file.
The amount field in the source file contains commas as the thousands separator. However, FDMEE interprets this as a separate field even though the amount field is enclosed in double quotes.
Can anyone provide a solution so that FDMEE imports the full amount?
In the case below, using the first record as an example, FDMEE imports 14 as the amount instead of 14,216.89

11010,CASH - BANK ONE OPERATING,"$14,216.89 "
11045,CASH - CHASE BANK FLEX,A,"$16,685.81 "
