E-business 12.2.4 vision single install issues ( sys default pw invalid and adop prepare failed)

Hello, I just installed E-business 12.2.4 VISION single appliance using Virtual Box. I can get the EBS gui to run fine (login as sysadmin or operations), and the EBS db shows up fine when I do lsnrctl status. However I can not login as "sys" via sqlplus. i tried sqlplus / as sysdba, or sqlplus to get inside and then enter sys as sysdba, with the default password of "change_on_install". The rest of the default password looks fine (ie: i can sqlplus as SYSTEM and it works).

I searched around but cant find any post. This is a brand new install ( i did it twice just to confirm ) and both time right after install I cant run "sqlplus / as sysdba".
