How do i do convert impairment reserve as part of asset conversion?

My client used API templates to do conversion for assets before but there was no impairment reserve conversion then.We are now converting assets with impairment reserve and I was wondering if i can perform the conversion with no impairment reserve and then again after loading the assets in oracle I perform the impairment for those assets?...Is that an ok approach or is there a better way?
