Can we change the ORACLE user associated with a custom application?

We have a custom application registered in our 11i environment as GDX and GDX_TOP but the ORACLE user is CUSTOM. I would like to know if there if I can change the database account from CUSTOM to GDX and if so, how.

Your input or direction to another space to resolve this will be much appreciated.
