Need guidance for gathering stats

hello , I am about follow 781927.1, for deleting , locking and gathering baseline stats . So I have query , if I choose for baseline stats then it is first deleting column stats and then it is gathering stats. Please let me know whether it is needed to delete table stats before gathering stats as it is doing in baseline stats
