Can root.sh be skipped?

Hi

I am trying to upgrade the Oracle binaries/database from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4. Since it is in-place upgrade within the same server where Oracle binaries/database 11.2.0.3 exists. Can i skip root.sh and continue 11.2.0.4 installation? Later when i get root privileges will run the root.sh script. This way i can save time in analyzing oracle database using pre-upgrade script=utlu112i.sql.
