Purchase Order Creation, Approval and Receipting Slow when e-mail switched on

Good day

In E1 9.1 we have noticed that our purchase order creation, approval and receipting processing are very slow when we have e-mailing turned on.

If we go and remove the e-mail setup for the Buyer, Approver and Receivers then all processes are fast.

We are trying to determine, where the delay is when e-mail is turned on?

Does JD Edwards wait for the e-mail to be sent out before completing the transaction or what?

Your assistance in this would be much appreciated.
