Any new developments on vault disk space management?

What strategies are customers out there using for managing the space usage on Primary vaults in PLM file servers?
We're concerned that, as the size of our File Server's primary vault increases past 5 TB, our ability to back up - and, more critically, to restore - the primary vault in a timely manner could have a significant impact on recovery (from backup) operations. So how are other PLM Agile users dealing with this risk? Are they somehow migrating objects to secondary vaults, and if so, what tools are they using for automating this? Home grown or packaged? Or are they just building multiple redundant File Servers and relying on that redundancy to protect them, with the hope that
