US PAY: Pre Requisite for Q1 2017

Hi:

We just went live and are not update to date with Family Packs.  Infact the latest Family Pack we have is from 2015.

We are planning to apply Q1 2017 Patches and the pre-requisite are the 2016 Year end which in turn has a prerequisite of 2016 Family Pack for the 12.2.3

Just curious, what is the downside of not applying Pre-requisites before applying Q1 2017.
